And the saga continues…

Kolkata and bandh—both are so ancient and so much related to each other, that it’s tough to imagine one without the other. If we trace back to the pages of history, these strikes and rallies are actually meant to be a protest against some kind of nuisance, a voice of the common mass! Till today bandhs are called as a show of protest but how is the common man’s interests saved?! On a more practical basis, these bandhs are nothing but a heck!

I, being a student and I believe, most of the students heave a sigh of relief on the 1st news of a strike…reason for the bandh? ‘Oh! Comeon, that can come later…right now it’s a holiday!’ Not only for the students, but even for the elderly people, bandhs are nothing but one day of undue relaxation...hence fun! Thus the true sense of these strikes are somewhere somehow lost.

Again on the other hand, the entire city life gets paralyzed. 1day bandh for the poor people who live on daily wages, is nothing but a curse and if the strike continues for days, you never know how and on what they live! Patients suffer from acute despair on these days due to the absence of normal flow of transport and communication! The list of problem never ends.

So the question arises, “Are bandhs really of any help?!” May be no!

But then the question arises, “Then how do we protest against all kind of non-sense brutalities and cruelties??”

“Is there any way that we can protest without causing inconvenience to the common people??”
